Newborn Session Prep

  • For nursing mothers please be careful what you eat 24 hours prior to your session.  I suggest avoiding spicy foods that may upset your little ones stomach.  (Pizza, onions, garlic etc.). If you would like a full list of suggested food to avoid please let me know. If possible having a small bottle of milk we can use to settle baby while in poses is a great plus!

  •  If bottle feeding please bring a couple extra bottles. Newborns tend to eat more than usual  during a session, because we are constantly moving and posing them so they burn through their milk a lot faster.

  • Trying to keep your baby awake in the couple hours leading up to the session.  If the baby has slept all morning and then arrives to my studio, they just might be ready for a long awake period, which makes the job of getting them sleepy all that much harder.  So, some tips to help are to play with baby, talk with baby, maybe even give the baby a bath before the session – whatever it takes to keep them alert for an hour. Then, when they arrive in my studio, they’ll be ready for a long nap.

  • Make sure your baby has a nice, full tummy before they leave the house to come to their session.  This way, assuming your drive isn’t too long, the baby will still be full and has probably fallen asleep in the car. When you arrive at the studio we will get  Setup for the first setup of the newborn session, and undress baby as needed for the setup.  I will ask that you do a dream feed right before we start, this is a quick feeding while baby is sleeping or semi-sleeping. This helps to keep baby in a very deep sleep.   If baby gets to fussy or is not in a deep sleep throughout the session I may ask you to do additional quick feeding snacks.

  • Please bring a pacifier (even if you don't use it very often, this makes posing much easier)

  • Most Newborn Poses are done with the newborn unclothed, please dress the newborn in something that is easy to remove (doesn't have to be pulled over the head)  a button-up or zip-up sleeper.  Preferably a loose fitting one.  This makes it easier to keep baby asleep while we easily undress them for the session.

  • My studio will be set to around 70 degrees, then i use a small heater for direct heat for the newborn as well as the heat my light generates, it will be quite warm typically 80+, i try to keep the sitting area a comfortable temperature for parents.  If at anytime you do not feel the studio is warm enough or cool enough just let me know.

  •  Please dress yourself, partner and any children that will be attending the session in solid, neutral colors, light patterns (please avoid florescent, bright colors and busy patterns)

  • Please bring a water bottle and small non messy snacks for yourself and children. • bring a laptop, a book to read, or whatever you need to stay entertained during the session.

  • I try to keep the studio as calm and quiet as possible, if you have young children that will be attending the newborn session if possible plan for your significant other, friend or relative to be available to take them home, outside to play etc.

  • Baby will more than likely pee, poop and throw up on me, props and blankets, its ok, it happens at every session, so don't panic, no need to feel bad, I will clean everything up. And all props, blankets and items baby comes in contact with are washed and sterilized after the session
